What a mobile app costs in India, and what changes the price
The short answer
The price of a mobile app comes from how many kinds of users it has, how many screens each needs, what it connects to (payments, WhatsApp, maps) and who runs it afterwards. A one-purpose app costs far less than a marketplace with two sides and an admin panel. I quote fixed prices against a written scope, and a custom build from me starts at ₹2,00,000.
A search for app costs gives you ranges so wide they are useless. That happens because the word app covers everything from a booking form to a ride network. This page explains what actually moves the number, so you can size yours before you ask anyone for a quote.
The prices on this page are my own. I do not publish what other developers or agencies charge, because I cannot verify it.
This is for you if
- You are comparing quotes and want to know whether one is padded or missing something.
- You are planning a budget before you talk to anyone.
- You want to cut scope intelligently rather than buy a smaller version of everything.
This is not for you if
- You want a single number without describing the app. No honest developer can give one.
- You are comparing against a cheaper quote that has no written scope. The scopes are not comparable.
What goes into a quote, line by line
- Users: each kind of user (customer, staff, admin, driver) is its own set of screens and permissions.
- Screens and flows: sign-up, the main task, payment or confirmation, history, settings.
- Integrations: UPI or card payments, WhatsApp messages, maps, SMS, email, accounting exports.
- The backend and database: where data lives, who can read it, how it is backed up.
- The admin side: how you add products, see orders and fix mistakes.
- Running costs afterwards: hosting, store accounts, messaging and monitoring.
Waits for version two
- A second platform.
- Advanced analytics and reporting.
- Features you cannot yet justify with real users.
How to size your own app in ten minutes
Write down each kind of person who will log in. For each, list the three things they must be able to do on day one. Then list what the app must talk to outside itself. That list is the scope.
Two or three roles with three tasks each and one or two integrations is a small build. Every extra role roughly multiplies the screens and the testing, which is why a two-sided marketplace costs much more than a one-sided tool.
Three ways to pay, and when each fits
The structure of the engagement changes the risk as much as the price.
- Architecture review (₹25,000 to ₹75,000, 1 to 2 weeks): you get a written design and an honest cost and timeline range. It is yours whoever builds it.
- Fixed-scope build (₹2,00,000 to ₹10,00,000, 4 to 12 weeks): a written specification, a fixed price and staged payments tied to delivered milestones.
- Hosted subscription (setup from ₹15,000, from ₹800 a month): for one tool doing one job. I build it, run it and keep it backed up.
Where quotes go wrong
A quote with no admin panel, because the owner has to be able to change things. A quote with no hosting or monitoring, because a live app needs both. A quote that treats store accounts and messaging fees as someone else's problem. A quote with no written scope, so every question later becomes an extra charge.
Store fees are real but small beside the build: Apple charges an annual developer fee and Google a one-time one, at rates that change, so check the current figures when you plan.
And a website?
A website without logins or payments is a much smaller job than an app. For a business site, the hosted plans cover it: setup from ₹15,000 and from ₹800 a month. A store or a site with a custom workflow behind it moves into the build range.
What it costs
These are the figures on the rest of this site, not an estimate made up for this page. Your number is fixed after the free call and a written scope.
Architecture review & advisory
₹25,000 to ₹75,000
1–2 weeks. A written design and an honest cost range. It is yours whoever builds it.
Fixed-scope build
₹2,00,000 to ₹10,00,000
4–12 weeks. Written scope, fixed price, staged payments, source code in your repository.
Hosted · Starter
from ₹800/month
Setup from ₹15,000. One tool doing one job — bookings, invoices, stock, enquiries.
Hosted · Growth
from ₹2,500/month
Setup from ₹40,000. A few tools, more staff, or something customers log into.
These are my own prices. Cancel any month on hosted plans. If you would rather run it yourself, the source and deployment are handed over for a one-time fee. You are never locked in.

Common questions
- What is the minimum cost to build a mobile app in India?
- For me, the smallest engagement is a hosted single-purpose tool: setup from ₹15,000 and ₹800 a month. A custom app with its own backend and admin panel is a fixed-scope build, which starts at ₹2,00,000. The figure for your app depends on its users and integrations.
- Why do two quotes for the same app differ so much?
- Usually because the scopes differ. One may include an admin panel, hosting, testing on real devices and handover; the other may not. Ask both to list users, screens, integrations and what is excluded, then compare those lists.
- How long does it take to build an app?
- My fixed-scope builds run 4 to 12 weeks depending on scope, with a working version on a real phone each week. A small hosted tool can be live much sooner.
- What does an app cost after launch?
- Hosting, backups, any messaging or maps charges, store developer accounts and small fixes. On the hosted plan these are bundled into the monthly fee. On a fixed build you pay hosting separately, or I run it for you on a monthly plan.
- How much does a website cost in India?
- A simple business website fits my hosted plans from ₹15,000 setup and ₹800 a month. A store, a booking system or a custom workflow is a fixed-scope build. The quote follows a written scope.
